In the modern era, mental frameworks (angāreh) have acquired a philosophical formulation both as patterns of thought in the domain of theoretical reason and as guides for action in the sphere of practical reason, thereby moving beyond the rhetorical conception of metaphor as merely an ornament of speech. The central question of this study is: What are the functions of religion in the management of mental frameworks? The findings of this research indicate that the management of mental frameworks encompasses various dimensions, among which framework formation, the cultivation of conducive contexts for frameworks, and the correction of frameworks are of primary importance, and religion plays a significant role in all three. In the matter of mental frameworks, substitution and replacement are involved, and religion assumes an important role in this process. Furthermore, through its guidance, teachings, and exemplary models, religion can provide a healthy environment for the formation of constructive mental frameworks and for avoiding destructive ones. Different reinterpretations of theological concepts—such as viewing fasting as a rebirth or as a regulatory practice—also contribute to creating an inner environment that is inhospitable to the emergence and growth of negative mental frameworks. Moreover, profound and systematic reflection on religion facilitates the correction of erroneous interpretations and destructive mental frameworks arising from literalism, insufficient attention to the Qur'an and Wilāyah, and neglect of the interconnected nature of Qur'anic verses and narrations.
